Am I a candidate for LASIK?

Between 80 and 90% of people who meet the age requirement and healthy in general are candidates for LASIK.

If you are outside of this group, there are some alternative treatments for you.

You might be a candidate for LASIK if you meet the following criteria:

  • Generally healthy
  • Not pregnant or nursing
  • Have stable vision with your eyeglass prescription within certain limits
  • Have sufficiently thick/normal corneas
  • Do not suffer from dry eyes, eye infections, or other chronic eye conditions

If you do not qualify for LASIK, our team can discuss more suitable alternative treatments, such as PRK or lens replacement surgeries to achieve good vision.

The cost of LASIK

At BC LASIK , the cost of LASIK or PRK is $2250 per eye, new technologies are included in the fee.

Please consider all the factors when you compare the prices between different clinics, for example, if you actually end up paying additional fees and costs, and what type of technology they’re using.

While LASIK can have a higher up-front cost, it will actually save you money compared to other types of surgery.

If you consider the costs of eyeglasses or contacts, changes in style, the prices of LASIK is significantly less than the costs of buying corrective lenses over your lifetime. When you add in the costs of purchasing contact lens solutions or buying a pair of prescription sunglasses, LASIK is even more affordable.

If you have LASIK, you’ll actually save a lot of money because you’ll no longer need to rely on glasses or contacts for the rest of your life.

At BC LASIK , we are committed to providing you with an affordable financial plan so that freedom from glasses and contacts can be within reach!

What does LASIK treat?

  • nearsightedness,
  • farsightedness,
  • astigmatism (yes, even high amounts of astigmatism),

Individuals with these conditions have an abnormally shaped cornea, which means that light coming into the eye cannot be adequately focused on the retina (thereby causing low vision).

LASIK reshapes the cornea, so it does a better job of focusing light on the retina.

Bring your vision back into focus!

What do I need to know about the surgery day?

Before LASIK surgery, an eye exam will be performed to ensure your eyes are healthy enough for the procedure and to evaluate your specific refractive condition.

Since your corneas will be modified, the shape and thickness of your corneal tissue will be examined. Your eye surgeon uses this information to customize your treatment to your needs and goals. You can ask questions that you may have for your surgeon.

Afterwards, your eyes will be numbed with drops, and you may receive medication to relax you. You will be positioned under the LASIK laser, and your eyelids will be gently held open. A femtosecond laser is used to create a small flap on the surface of your cornea. The flap is folded back to reveal the underlying corneal tissue.

An excimer laser beam carefully removes tissue to reshape the cornea.
When the cornea has achieved its optimal shape, the flap is repositioned where it seals itself.

You will not feel anything during the procedure other than a little pressure. LASIK and PRK is performed one eye at a time, and each eye can take up to five minutes.

Please have someone accompany you , your friend, spouse, who can drive you home after the procedure.

What is the post procedure care

LASIK recovery is generally quick and free of complications. For the first 24 hours after surgery, you will need to wear protective eye shields and avoid over-straining the eyes by reading, using handheld devices, computers or watching TV. Tearing, eye irritation, dry eyes and light sensitivity may occur but are temporary.

Within 24 hours, you might have noticeably improved vision. Your results will continue to improve over the next few days. Some patients benefit from 20/20 vision or better after laser eye surgery! This is why active working individuals choose LASIK for quicker recoveries.

For a better vision tomorrow!
